Mark studies

2018-2019

It all starts with playful experimentation.

They began as sketches on scrap paper that I would do out of frustration with a project, or waiting for a piece to dry. I would work out compositional problems and experiment with varying marks and textures. They later became the most exciting pieces to me, and felt the most natural and authentic. Each piece has played an important role in my artistic practice, and they capture the aesthetic emotion that encompasses the process of creating them.
